Fixing a leaky faucet yourself can save money and is easier than you think! Follow these simple steps:
Tools You’ll Need:
✔ Adjustable wrench
✔ Phillips & flathead screwdriver
✔ Replacement washers & O-rings
✔ Plumber’s tape
Step-by-Step Fix:
1️⃣ Turn Off Water Supply – Locate the shutoff valves under the sink and turn them off. Open the faucet to release remaining water.
2️⃣ Remove the Faucet Handle – Use a screwdriver to remove the handle’s screw (usually under a cap on top).
3️⃣ Take Out the Cartridge or Washer –
- If it’s a compression faucet, replace the rubber washer at the bottom of the stem.
- If it’s a cartridge faucet, pull out the old cartridge and insert a new one.
4️⃣ Check and Replace O-Rings – Worn O-rings often cause leaks. Replace them with a matching size.
5️⃣ Reassemble & Turn Water Back On – Reattach the handle, turn the water supply back on, and test for leaks.
🎉 Done! If the faucet still leaks, it might be time to replace the entire fixture.
